Just when you think everyone's a jerk...

I'm touched and I am humbled. A girl I work with, Theresa, has an 11-year-old sister. For her 11th birthday, she asked that instead of presents for her, her friends bring presents for the soldiers that are fighting in the Middle East. Theresa knows that my brother is currently in Afghanistan and asked if they could send everything to him to pass out to his fellow Marines. Apparently her sister got even more than she had hoped--at least 4 shipments worth of stuff!!! Here is the letter her mom wrote to Andrew...

Dear Sgt Richard:

My daughter, Joy, recently had her 11th birthday party. She had decided well beforehand that instead of asking for gifts for herself, she would ask her friends to bring ‘presents’ for our soldiers who are serving in the military. We hope you don’t mind, but we got your name from your sister, Tammy, who works with my other daughter, Theresa L’Homme.

We were unbelievably surprised by the outpouring of generosity from the families who came and brought bags and boxes of gifts for our soldiers in Afghanistan.

Therefore, I hope you don’t mind, Sgt Richard, that we are asking you to be the deliverer for these presents. I’m not sure just how many boxes it will take, but I’m going to try to get it all over to you in four shipments (so the boxes won’t be too big). I’ll make sure to put a note in the last box so you’ll know we’ve sent it all.

Please feel free to distribute these to anyone who you feel is in need of a smile or who hasn’t heard from any family members for some time. We are praying for all of you, and will continue to do so until our last soldier is safely home.

God bless you,

Mrs. Mary E. Dumont
