Easy Monday Craft

On this gloomy Monday, I thought I would share one of my recent (and most favorite because it's easy) crafts with you all.

I threw a baby shower for my best friend in the fall and despite my best efforts to trick her into it, she steadfastly refused to find out the gender of the baby. I wanted to avoid the green and yellow party theme so instead I went for an elegant fall color scheme with a focus on creams, browns and orange. It was lovely. I'll eventually post the rest of the stuff I did, but one of the easiest things I did was to make tiny tissue poms for napkin holders. I loved making them (obviously because I made, like, a kabillion) and want to use them for everything!

First, the here's how, straight direct copied from Ms. Martha Stewart herself but with my pictures:

1. Stack four sheets of tissue. Cut a 10-by-5-inch rectangle, going through all layers. Make 3/8-inch-wide accordion folds. EDIT: I used a shimmery cream tissue paper because it's stiffer (don't giggle) and was easier to shape on the back end (yes, I said back end).

2. Fold an 18-inch piece of floral wire in half, slip over center of tissue, and twist to secure. Trim ends of tissue to round the edges. NOTE: This is how NOT to fold and cut accordion style...you should start with the short end.

3. Separate layers, pulling away from center one at a time.

  •  I don't have a picture of this, but it's the fun part. Kind of like putting Elmer's glue on the pads of your fingers and letting it dry...but I digress.

4. Bend wire into a loop to fit around napkin, and twist end around loop to secure.

Then, make a bazillion more and put them everywhere (like on that bag of chips that snuck into the picture).

Ironically, I don't have a picture of them actually on a napkin, but you can imagine how that would work. Other things I did with them:
  • Made small vases of them (used tissue shred in the bottom of the vase to cover the wire)

  • Put one in my hair
  • Gave one to the baby's Nana to wear like a corsage
