DeCordova Museum and Sculpture Park

On a beautiful day last fall, Ryan and I decided to check out the DeCordova Museum and Sculpture Park (http://www.decordova.org/).  My friend Steph had told me how amazing it was and how you could bring a picnic lunch or a frisbee and just hang out on the grounds. It turned out to be the coolest thing ever! In addition to an indoor museum with lots of photography exhibits that I loved, there was a cafe and plenty of walking paths filled with different outdoor sculptures. One of my favorite things to do with Ryan is to discover new things and places together. It gives us a chance to step away from the monotony of our home routines and to hear each others' thoughts on a variety of topics, which are usually not what we expected the other to be thinking! I took a bunch of pictures with my phone and had forgotten all about them...enjoy!

Here are some rock scuptures...

What a beautiful day!!! I love the fall colors...

Ryan got along purr-fectly with this big cat. :)

Which was evidently a male cat...

This giant silver car had monitors in all the windows showing movies. The movies were boring, but the car was cool (the picture is in color, not black and white).

This is the museum from the outside.

The following two pictures are made entirely out of recycled tires, but looked like wooden logs.

I believe this exhibit, made entirely out of newspapers piled atop one another, was intended to illustrate the power of recycling and is meant to decompose after a long period of time. Otherwise, it was pretty boring.

I'm looking up at Ryan from inside the paper pit for this one.

We came upon this sculpture of two giant hearts. Looked romantic from afar, but up close it was super creepy!!! It was comprised of all random things in the metal.

Like tools, wrenches, shoes, handles, you name it!

This one actually looked like a giant green and brown pine cone (the metal is naturally oxidizing which gives it the pretty colors), but from up close...well, you can see for yourself what it looked like. Ryan was strangely drawn to this one for some reason...

I think this one was the coolest one I took all day. Thanks to a little help from the setting sun, Ryan turned into a strong man!!!

And last, but certainly not least, is this fellow. We kept running into him on the grounds, and we giggled a little each time. His jeans were just so.....tight. And the scarf was just so...wow. You can imagine my pleasure when we stumbled upon a sculpture in progress and our little friend was completely engrossed in the creative process, allowing me to snap this classic pose:

So if you're out and about and looking for something fun to do, check out the DeCordova!!!
