What a great idea!

I did something so fantastic and thrifty that I thought it would be nice to share with y'all. I purchased some beautiful tulips, and for the first 5 days or so I had them in a tall, elegant vase. Their arching stems really call to mind the lazy days of summer for me. However, after a bit, they were looking a bit ridiculous, drooping over the sides of the vase so far that they were sticking out sideways.

Suddenly, inspiration hit. I cut the stems short and added them to a small square vase I had. Since they didn't have much pizazz, I pulled off several of the long tulip leaves and curled them into the vase itself, hiding the stems and providing support for my droopy tulips. Voila! They lasted almost another week like that!
