I finally caved and made an appointment to see a podiatrist next Monday. They have an X-ray right in the office so they'll be able to tell me then and there if I have the longest-lasting case ever of anterior shin splints or if they're stress fractures (boo boo boo no no no).
Until then, my plan was to keep on trucking and hanging out with my friends Stretch and Ice. I hopped on the treadmill and did the whole thing, but at a snail's pace. I was in tears from the pain at some points, and so frustrated!
The workout was:
5 min warmup
Run for 5 mins
Walk for 3 mins
Run for 8 mins
Walk for 3 mins
Run for 5 min
I was so tempted to quit. SO TEMPTED. But I'm fully vested in this dream now and I just don't want to stop. I tried to make it better by doing some arm and upper body work on the weight machines afterward, but I still felt crummy.
One awesome thing I did hear about which I tried was to put a towel in the freezer when you leave for your run, and then wrap it around your hurt part when you get home. I tried it without wetting it and it was cold but not icy cold, so maybe I would try and wet it a bit next time.
Today is a day of rest...and by rest I mean shovel. Go figure.
